Pop’s is the affectionate name my youngest daughter would call me when she needed $omething. This really happened a lot during her college years. Once grandkids were in the mix, it was her obvious choice for my grandpa name.
Growing up on the Brazilian Amazon, I fell in love with “Pimenta de Cheiro” (smell good pepper) and of course the hot sauces made from it. This hot pepper (50,000-300,000 scovilles) has a delicious smell and taste along with its heat. More recently I was introduced to some Peruvian Amazon hot peppers with similar taste and smell.
Always wanting that perfect hot sauce and never finding one, Pop’s Pimenta was born! It did take some seeds from Brazil and Peru to start my first garden and then playing with different recipes before two special hot sauces were ready for you.
As of this writing, only 2 hot sauces have been blessed with the Pop’s Pimenta label. My favorite, and the Signature Sauce, brings back childhood memories eating on the streets of Belem, Para, Brazil. But my family swears by the #2 sauce whose secret ingredients include a bit of tequila - no wonder they like it!
